Crushed ice or crushed plastic?

Our food used to be a mystery. Butter was dosed with borax, it’s for your health they said. Sugar was dosed with sand, in this case they didn’t say anything(unregulated but still illegal, they wouldn’t take chances). Whether these additions were in good faith or artifice, the need for testing and transparency was clear. In 1906 our hero (though he may sound like a villain) Harvey Wiley arrived on the scene to hunt down just what the consequences of these additives were. He dosed his poison squad to test the effects and there you have it, now we know every detail of what is in our food. Or do we?
